I come from a long line of makers. My grandfather taught kendo and grew the most astonishing orchids. My grandmother could grow everything and cook and sew like a dream. My dad was a master carpenter and my mom was constantly knitting and crocheting and sewing. All my aunties and uncles got together and made leis for graduation and favors for weddings. We used this time to get together and catch-up and tell stories.
When I was eighteen I started to learn how to make pottery. It felt like the most natural next step. For the last 16 years I've focused on high fired functional pottery with a smidgeon of soda. I have a keen interest in plants and paint a lot of leaves and vines with colored slips. I often take my wheel thrown forms and facet and square and alter away from the round.
I have a pottery shop/studio at the Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park. I've been there for 30 years . Come and visit me.
