In making ceramics I channel and focus my creative energy to make a work of art. Quietly concentrating on shape, line, design, surface and color allows me to express my drive for order, beauty and form.
In my work form takes precedence over function, but many of the pieces are usable. I seek to craft an object that pleases my eye, that I connect with and that I hope will resonate with others.
The forms I make are simple yet sophisticated, elegant, spare, almost austere, but also incorporate organic elements, as is the nature of handmade things.
I create my pieces on a pottery wheel using porcelain clay, and fire in an electric kiln.
The rough clays and studied imperfection of centuries of Japanese ceramics and the sublime simplicity and subtle organic features of mid-20th century Scandinavian pottery inspire and influence my aesthetic.
