Chandra Beck: Hows and Whys of Electric Kilns

Master your Electric kiln and fix common ceramic glass and clay defects through the firing. In this informative one day workshop, we will master the use of an electric kiln and kiln shelves, clean and maintain kiln shelves and move onto practices for firing your electric kiln. We will move beyond simple cone firing programs and discuss when and why to use programs. Learn how to slow cool your firings, fire thick sculptures and maximize your works. Also, learn ways to fire or load your kiln in order to remedy communal firing and even discuss the scientific magic of transforming clay into ceramic. We will be using a controller for Cress and Skutt kilns for the demo. If you don’t own a kiln yet, we can discuss the pros and cons of different brands as well.

Workshop Feedback
“Chandra deftly demonstrated several techniques that either I didn’t know about or had been wanting to learn! Then she went overboard as she helped each of us as we experimented on our own. Very Successful workshop!” – Lanna, June 8, 2016

“Chanda is a fun, creative teacher. Her workshop is chalked full of super exciting techniques that make a good project GREAT.”

“I loved Chanda’s workshop. I kind of knew it but for me it was very good to be reminded of how to properly do the different applications. She was very well prepared and was very smooth and a good flow.” – Icka Cayard, June 9, 2016
