The first metal & glass panels I created were inspired by the cellular architecture of xylem, which forms the wood of trees. I work with spiral forms that evoke fossil shells, galaxies, and the cyclical nature of time. I appreciate the expanding radial symmetry of roots and flowers. Moving to the woods in 2004 led to tree designs, and portraits of particular trees I admire. The awesome complexity of living plants, shaped by weather, insects and other influences, reminds me that beauty is not a matter of perfection. Life experience adds richness, and perfection is ultimately too simple to remain interesting.
