Each piece begins with the turning of the potters wheel. The nature of this organic material dominates the landscape in which decisions are made. I aspire to compose forms filled with energy and balance.
My efforts are focused on a unity of form and surface while maintaining the broader attention to function.
Scale, volume, shape, texture and surface design all evoke our senses. Pottery affects and nurtures us through physical interaction. How a handle is translated from the intent of the maker into the hand of the user, or the feel of the lip of a cup on that first sip of morning coffee.
I am inspired by the familiarity of these forms as they relate to our daily life and rituals.
