I have been making ceramics, both pottery and sculpture for over forty years. I am also an educator teaching ceramics at the college level. For twenty years I have been mostly creating sculptural wall pieces. I enjoy using traditional Chinese glazes in a contemporary context. In my wall work the transition points between contrasting environments are my focus.
Ten years ago I began focusing on porcelain vessels with celadon glazes and I have fallen in love with pots again. So now I make both pottery and sculpture with passion. Over the last ten years with the help and inspiration of many potters I have explored many different firing techniques and have been focusing on decorative vases and drinking vessels. The holding of a cup in the hand creates an intimate tactile and esthetic experience that is personal. We make our ceramics public as we share meals and beverages with each other. So the drinking vessel is delightfully both private and public.
