My functional artworks are directly influenced by all the women artisans in my family. Using yarn, fabric and threads they created out of necessity as well as out of a desire for artistic expression. I worked alongside them and learned to translate my own ideas into finished pieces.
Today I use colored strings of glass, glass powders and sheets of glass as my yarns, thread and fabric. With these elements I explore new ways to communicate and share what I learned from these women. My wall panels are glass 'paintings' on a glass substrate which has been fired and sandblasted before applying glass powders and frits. I make stencils over which I sift the powders and frit to create three dimensional soft contours on my images.
