My recent work explores liminality as a psychological state of being no longer there, but not yet somewhere else.
I am interested in what happens when a transition does not lead immediately to a new beginning. The previous sense of identity, belonging, or stability has already been lost, while a new one has not yet formed. What was temporary begins to feel permanent. Waiting becomes a condition of existence.
This state carries uncertainty, anxiety, disorientation, and a loss of agency. There is an awareness that returning to the previous condition is impossible, but no clear understanding of what comes next. The future exists, but it cannot yet be imagined as a place to inhabit.
I am particularly interested in prolonged liminality when the expected resolution never arrives.
What happens to identity when a person remains between different versions of themselves? What happens to hope when waiting has no defined end?
At what point does transition become stasis?
For me, liminality is not necessarily a space of possibility. It can also be a state of suspended belonging: no longer connected to what has been left behind, yet unable to establish a relationship with what lies ahead. My current work considers the psychological experience of living inside this unresolved interval.
