I enjoy creating figurative sculpture. I use several hand building techniques including slab ,wheel thrown, dowel methods, and mold shapes. Glaze applications are layering of velvet underglazes and copper carbonate washes. Some lusters are used on detail work. Each is fired in the cone 04- cone1 range. I do my own patina work on clay and metal objects used in my compositions.

Narrative

Paula Collins has been creating ceramic artwork for over thirty years. Her current work explores figurative sculptures using various techniques in hand building and glaze applications.
Themes of head and body as reliquaries are often part of her work. Utilizing scale, morphing human to animal, and the use of found objects in her compositions allows her to explore her differing narratives.
Each piece can take a couple of weeks to produce. The many hours bring experimentation with them making the process a challenging experience for Paula. In the end, it is what they reveal to her that she finds the most rewarding.
