ABOUT THE ART WORK
I personally design and fabricate all my work. Each piece showcases characteristics unique to glass, such as reflecting and refracting light and colors. I typically use Dichroic, iridized, opaque and translucent glass. Which when combined create fascinating light patterns.
As part of the design process I hand pick all of the glass to ensure quality. After I cut the major glass pieces I incorporate individual glass elements by using a propane/oxygen torch. Once the composition is finalized the work is placed the kiln to be fired for 12 to 20 hours, fusing the glass into a flat shape. Some pieces employ multiple kiln firings to achieve the desired texture and design. Most pieces are returned to the kiln over a mold and re-fired to slum into the final shape. When the kiln process is complete the art piece is then signed.
Ideas for my artwork are derived from my design background in Architecture, Photography and Glass Blowing. The emphasis is on individual design and not mass production. My most current work involves Asian influenced art incorporated into "donuts" for pendants and using Japanese stencils for designs on many of my works. Virtually all of my creations are one of the kind.
Publications include "Contemporary Warm Glass" by Brad Walker. I am an exhibiting member of the Association of Clay and Glass Artist in California.
